TTP Pakistan Cease Fire

Govt. of Pakistan and TTP are going into agreement to ceasefire. Afghan Taliban are facilitating this deal between the two parties. As per reports, the ceasefire will initially for 1 month and during this month confidence building measures will be taken by both sides. Pakistan may release some TTP terrorists kept in Pakistani jails. Afghan Taliban are not only facilitating these talks but also guaranteed Pakistani govt. regarding the activities of TTP against Pakistan.

On 8 November, a National Security Meeting was held in Islamabad in which political parties of Pakistan participated along with military leadership. Army Chief and DG ISI briefed the participants regarding the importance of deal and why it is important? As per DG ISI, ISIS-K is getting momentum in Afghanistan as it is receiving heavy funding from neighboring countries. Russia on one hand is supporting Afghan Taliban but also in contact with ISIS-K. Several Russian funded local assets have communicated and visited ISIS-K officials.

On the other hand, local assets are created in Afghanistan in the cover of NGOs. Main reason for not accepting new Afghan govt. by west is for the reason. If countries would accept the new govt., they have to help Afghans in current food insecurity as well. Right now, relief activities are underway through NGOs. These NGOs in Afghanistan are not only providing food but also providing money to local anti-Taliban groups to cause destabilization.

Next 6 months will observe change in security situation of Afghanistan as it will get worst. Pakistan has chance to crack deal as Taliban are relying more on Pakistan right now. Pakistan is only country supporting new Afghan govt. Taliban can facilitate talks between Pakistani Govt. and TTP. If Taliban govt will be recognized by more countries in future, their reliance on Pakistan will reduce and it would be hard to talk to TTP. On the other hand, number of TTP commanders are in contact with ISIS-K leadership. There are strong chances that number of TTP members may join ISIS in Afghanistan and it will be a problem for Pakistan’s security and business activities. Number of Taliban fighters are also spying for other intelligence agencies against their leadership.
