Pakistan is facing a new wave of terrorism with the start of 2022. It started with the attack on Police check post in G9 sector, Karachi company area. Both attackers were killed in retaliatory fire. 2nd major attack was a blast on January 20, 2022 at Anarkali Bazar, Lahore in front of Habib Bank Ltd. This attack was claimed by BNA (Balochistan Nationalist Army) which emerged with the merger of BRA (Baloch Republican Army) and UBA (United Baloch Army). This bank is only Pakistani bank which provides transaction facilities to CPEC companies in Pakistan. BNA in statement confirmed that target were bank employees. 3rd major attack was on a check post in Kech area of Balochistan. Around 50 insurgents of BLF (Balochistan Liberation Front) attacked Pakistan Army check post in mid night which resulted in deaths of 10 soldier. 2 attacks were conducted simultaneously in Noshki and Panjgur yesterday where 2 FC HQs came into attack by around 15-20 terrorists. 15 terrorists are confirmed dead while 5 are cordoned off by security forces and fight is still in progress. Attack resulted in death of 7 Pakistani soldiers and both attacks are claimed by BLA (Balochistan Liberation Army).

In order to understand this new attacks, we must analyze attacking techniques. Baloch groups in past usually prefer to attack in day light due to insufficient night combat equipment. Recent attacks in Kech, Noshki and Panjgur were conducted at night. Equipment recovered from dead bodies of terrorists involved in recent attacks is modern and US made which US left in Afghanistan. In these attacks, attackers were equipped with night vision and thermal vision goggles, infrared laser aiming on their M16 and M4 assault rifles with US made hand grenades. This equipment is expensive and increase night combat capabilities. RPGs recovered from these terrorists had booster kit to increase range of rockets. It is a common practice that as soon some place is attacked, security forces start listening calls. Sources in Pakistani intelligence confirms that attackers of Kech, Panjgur and Noshki were in contact with their handlers in Afghanistan and India. As soon attack started, twitter accounts which are believed to be handled by Indian intelligence agencies or people close to Indian intelligence agencies started tweeting news. Even local journalists and security forces were not updating and later details of twitter accounts confirmed by attackers accounts.

Whenever involvement of India is claimed by Pakistan, several questions are raised on both sides, China and Pakistan. To address those questions, China and Pakistan must understand each other. Pakistan is surrounded by its neighbors like China, India, Iran, and Afghanistan. China is only neighbor who is not hostile to Pakistan. On the other hand, Iran has its own interests in Balochistan and claims Balochistan area as part of Iran. Also with the announcement of CPEC, significance of Gwadar port emerged as threat for Iran, or Iran considered Gwadar Port as threat. Relationship between India and Iran are very close and it is not a secret. Several times Pakistani security forces claimed that Indian intelligence agencies used Iranian soil to conduct terrorists activities in Pakistan and also they claim that a terrorist group is funded by India and Iran time to time. On the other hand India has several conflicts with Pakistan which majorly includes Kashmir, water, and Siachin. Afghanistan is hostile towards Pakistan even after around 2 decades of war. Afghan soil is constantly used by anti Pakistan elements to conduct attacks on security forces. On the other hand China has only one province where they face insurgency and those insurgents are also in Afghanistan which are great threat to Pakistan and China both.

Recent cross border operations by Pakistani security forces against Baloch groups and TTP resulted in death of several key leaders of Baloch groups and TTP. It resulted that TTP issued caution to their terrorists to avoid unnecessary movement and limit their activities. But is it long term solution of problem. China and Pakistan are close and China is close to military than political government. Insurgency can be countered with political stability in Pakistan. CPEC will also flourish in healthy political environment. Current government of Pakistan is incapable to run the state affairs so China must pressurized Pakistani military to ensure stable political environment which is beneficial for this region. 

Clash between China and India on their borders have confirmed the higher tables of India that there is no way that India can afford 2 front war with Pakistan and China. CPEC is key to prosperity to Pakistan. Economically strong Pakistan will be a big threat to India. India is not only trying to attack Chinese nationals and interests in Pakistan but also supporting ant China narrative and anti China propaganda. On the other hand, modern technological advancement of China is barred US to confront US or European countries to engage China militarily. Sources in Pakistan confirm that FATA and Balochistan is disturb not only due to India and Iran but also due to NGOs and INGOs which are funded by US and European countries are bigger threat to China and Pakistan's goals. From January 1st till today, security forces have foiled 7 major attacks which were directly intended to hit Chinese nationals/ projects in Pakistan. Timely response of security forces averted the threat. Investigations indicate that more attacks will be conducted in the future.
